4. FIRST AID MEASURES
Inhalation

If inhaled remove victim to fresh air. Apply resuscitation if victim is not breathing. Administer oxygen if breathing is difficult. If poisoning has occurred, administer atropine tablets as below. Remove contaminated clothing and loosen remaining clothing. Allow patient to assume most comfortable position and keep warm. Seek immediate medical attention. Ingestion
Induce vomiting using Ipecac Syrup APF and give one atropine tablet every five minutes until dryness of the mouth occurs. Do not give fluids or induce vomiting if victim is convulsing or unconscious. Seek immediate medical attention. If skin or hair contact occurs, immediately remove contaminated clothing and wash skin and hair with running water for at least 15 minutes. If symptoms of poisoning occur, administer atropine tablets as above. Seek immediate medical attention. Launder protective clothing before storage or re-use. If in eyes, hold eyelids apart and flush the eye continuously with large amounts of water for at least 15 minutes. Do not try to remove contact lenses. Seek immediate medical attention. Advice to Doctor
This product contains chlorpyrifos, an organophosphorus insecticide that causes acute cholinesterase depression. Atropine by injection or Atrovent/ipratropium by airway puff are the preferred emergency antidotes. Oximes such as PAM/protopam may be of therapeutic value if used early but only in conjunction with atropine. This product contains petroleum type solvents. The benefits of inducing vomiting must be weighed against the risk of chemical pneumonitis. If lavage is performed, endotracheal or oesophagioscopic control is recommended. 5. FIRE FIGHTING MEASURES

For major fires call the Fire Brigade. Ensure that an escape path is available from any fire. Suitable Extinguishing
Foam, carbon dioxide and dry chemical. Fine water spray or water fog is the preferred media for large fires. Hazardous Combustion
Carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide (if combustion is incomplete) and Products
smoke, nitrogen and under some circumstances oxides of nitrogen, oxides of sulphur and oxides of phosphorus. Firefighting Equipment
Wear Safe Work Australia approved self-contained breathing apparatus and full protective clothing. Unusual Fire or
Combustible liquid – C1.
Explosion Hazards
There is a moderate risk of an explosion if this product is involved in
fire.
Overheating may cause drums to explode. Cool containers with a
fine water spray.

6. ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES

Clear the area of all unprotected personnel. Wear full protective equipment including breathing apparatus. Shut off sources of ignition. Isolate leaking containers and if safe to do so, stop the leak by manoeuvring the drum. Decant the leaking container into a clean empty drum and label. Contain spilled material with sand, clay, earth or other non-combustible material. Sweep up material when absorption is completed and transfer contaminated materials to open top containers for disposal. Scatter lime over the affected area and leave for one hour then shovel into drum and wash the area with a minimal amount of water. Ensure run off does not contaminate drains, sewers, streams, rivers or water courses. Launder protective clothing before storage or re-use.
7. HANDLING AND STORAGE

Handling

Exercise normal care in handling. Avoid unnecessary skin and eye contact. Store in the tightly closed, original container in a dry, well ventilated area, out of direct sunlight. Do not store with food, feedstuffs, fertilizers and seeds. Make sure that the product does not come into contact with heat sources, naked flames or sparks and strong oxidising agents.
8. EXPOSURE CONTROLS/PERSONAL PROTECTION
Exposure Standards
Chlorpyrifos:
(Safe Work Australia)
TWA: - ppm / 0.2 (skin) STEL: - ppm / - mg/m3 Engineering Controls
Use local exhaust ventilation, or other engineering controls to maintain airborne levels below recommended exposure limits. Controls should be sufficient so that applicable occupational exposure limits are not exceeded. Respiratory Protection
Use a Safe Work Australia approved full face supplied air respirator if high airborne concentrations of the material are present. See Australian Standards AS/NZS 1715 and 1716 for more information. Eye Protection
Safety glasses with top and side. See Australian Standards AS 1336 and AS/NZS 1337 for more information. Skin Protection
Wear protective gloves and protective clothing appropriate for the risk of exposure. See Australian Standards AS 2161 and 2919 and AS/NZS 2210 for more information. Hygienic Practices
Food, beverages and tobacco products should not be stored or consumed where this material is in use. Always wash hands before smoking, eating, drinking or using the toilet. Wash contaminated clothing and other protective equipment before storage or re-use. Provide eyewash fountains and safety showers in close proximity to points of potential exposure. 03/08/2012 3/6

Ecotoxicity
Aquatic Organisms:
LC50 96hr (Rainbow trout) = 0.009 mg/L
LC50 96hr (Bluegill) = 0.01 mg/L
LC50 96hr (Fathead minnow) = 0.331 mg/L
Chlorpyrifos is highly toxic to bees, birds and fish. It is moderately
toxic to pets and livestock and has low toxicity to earthworms.
Chlorpyrifos does not accumulate in animals. Chlorpyrifos is non-
systemic in plants and is not absorbed from soil via the roots.
Mobility
When used as a termiticide, the half-life of chlorpyrifos in soil is at least four months. Chlorpyrifos binds strongly to soil particles and organic matter and does not leach. Degradation is by microbial action, hydrolysis and volatilisation. Rate of degradation depends on a variety of factors including soil type, climatic conditions, pH and exposure to sunlight. In water, chlorpyrifos is hydrolysed to a pyridinol compound, not thought to be hazardous, which subsequently breaks down to carbon dioxide and simple organic compounds. Rate of hydrolysis increases with pH.

Doctor, should i take antihistamines, decongestants, and “cold” remedies

Doctor, should I take Antihistamines, Decongestants, and “Cold” Remedies Histamine is an important body chemical that is responsible for the congestion, sneezing, and runny nose that a patient suffers with an allergic attack or an infection. Antihistamine drugs block the action of histamine, therefore reducing the allergy symptoms. For the best result, antihistamines should be taken before all
