INTRODUCTION
Ayurveda is arguable one of the oldest traditional system of medicine in practice today.
Ayurveda believes that the health of an individual depends on ability to live in harmony
with oneself as well as the external universe. It has always preached “Prevention is better
than cure’ Ayurvedic treatment is generally administered after the Physician has a
complete understanding of the Prakriti or body type of a person. The good thing about this
science is that it can maintain health in the healthy and cure diseases in the unhealthy.
Ayurvedic medicines are prepared using herbs, minerals as well as some animal
derivatives. Contrary to popular belief Ayurvedic medicines are potent enough to cure
certain problems quickly, provided the correct medication is correct dosage at the right
time. This system can give tremendous relief to patients suffering from chronic ailments
like Arthritis, Skin, Bronchopulmonary, Cardiovascular and life style disorders. It is
however best to seek the advice of a qualified Physician and undergo a proper course of
treatment for best results.

Sadvaidyasala was founded in 1913 by Late Revered Bhisagratna Ayurveda Vidwan
B.V.Pundit. It is one of the oldest concerns manufacturing Ayurvedic medicines in
Karnataka. The preparations include both Pharmacopoeial (Formulae as per the books

ASAVAS & ARISHTAS
Asava and Arishtas are classical Ayurvedic preparations that contain self generated alcohol. Arishtas are prepared as a hot decoction by boiling medicinal herbs with water and after cooling allowed to ferment with the addition of jaggery and honey. Asava’s are prepared by making a sheetha kashaya (cold decoction) i.e., by adding boiled cooled water to the herbs, taking the decoction by squeezing and then allowing to ferment with the addition of jaggery and honey. Fermentation of these decoctions leads to the formation of self generated alcohol to a maximum of 12%. The active ingredients of the herbs are extracted into the decoction first and also in the self generated alcohol making the product effective. Most Asavas and Arishtas can be stored for long number of years unless otherwise mentioned. B.V.Pundit’s Arishtas are known for their quality and efficacy and are also known to work at lower dosages. Most of our Asava, Arishtas are available in 200ml, 500ml and 1000ml. 1.
