Aim Bury Stop Smoking Service provides a non-judgemental & confidential service to the residents of Bury, offering support whilst they are stopping smoking. The service can provide information on all products supported by the latest research available. Support Available
The NHS offer FREE help and support for people who want to give up smoking. Evidence shows that seeking professional help can increase your chances of stopping for good. Our specialist advisors can offer support or alternatively support may be available from your Practice Nurse, Pharmacist, Health Trainer, Health Visitor and midwife etc.
Support can be offered on a one-to-one basis, informal group basis in your local area or through telephone support by a trained stop smoking advisor.
Between 01/04/07 and 31/03/08, 1368 people stopped smoking in Bury with the help of the stop smoking service, which shows that you can do it with support.
Products Available
The Stop Smoking Service and its trained Intermediate Advisors can offer advice on which product would be most suitable for the patient. Research shows that using Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT), Zyban or Champix doubles your chances of effectively stopping smoking for good.
NRT products are available on prescription. There is a wide variety of NRT products and they are all effective in helping you to stop smoking.
NRT is currently provided in 6 different products, which are:-
Alternative products available are Zyban and Champix which are non nicotine based tablets that work by reducing your desire to smoke and your withdrawal symptoms. They are not a magic cure and smokers will need to still be determined to quit their habit. Zyban and Champix are only available on prescription and are not suitable for all. A client's full medical history will need to be assessed by a trained stop smoking advisor.
